Meyboom Artist-
Run Spaces

Dear King, please give me a house

by Jubilee, Jesse van Winden, Stéphanie Petitjean on September 2024

A one-day event with artistic interventions about the lack of affordable space to live and work in Brussels. 04/09/2024, 17-23h.

Dear King, Please Give Me a House is a programme of performances, installations, presentations, film and music about the dire state of working and living space in the city at the moment – expensive and getting worse. It’s also about urban development, temporary occupation, public space, gentrification, and all the beauty that is at stake. How can we reclaim the city?

We called out to write letters to the King and Queen about this increasingly problematic situation. These letters are on display for the duration of the event, and we suggest that we then send them to the Royal Palace together.

The one-day event is initiated and organised by Jesse van Winden and Stéphanie Petitjean at Meyboom Artist-Run Spaces on Wednesday 4 September. The artist community of Meyboom needs to leave the building on 15 September due to 253% rent increase.

Dear king, please give me a house. Poster by Stéphanie Petitjean, photo by Jesse van Winden, showing the former Actiris headquarters in process of demolition. This used to be the location of Jubilee's offices, as well as that of around 150 artists studios, for 3 years.
